We are as overjoyed as you watching little Aleeshba and her parents usher in joy after she could start hearing properly for the first time. As Mr Shoaib and Ms Sayeeda explains how they could not identify the problem at first but slowly realised that it is more than just a speech problem. The negative BERA test results were shocking for them at first when they realised Aleeshba could not hear anything on both her ears. That is when they met Dr. Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao and decided to go for a Cochlear implant surgery, a small, complex electronic device that can help to provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard-of-hearing. A cochlear implant is very different from a hearing aid. Hearing aids amplify sounds so they may be detected by damaged ears whereas cochlear implants bypass damaged portions of the ear and directly stimulate the auditory nerve. Mr. Ali Shakkir Salloom from Iraq was suffering from progressive hearing loss and pulsatile tinnitus for one year. He was diagnosed to have massive Tympanojugular Paraganglioma. A doctor in Iraq had referred him to our Team BSBI led by Dr. Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao. Patient underwent complete tumor excision post embolisation with Infratemporal fossa type A approach with BI300 implant for ipsilateral simultaneous hearing restoration. Post operatively his histopathology report showed paraganglioma. He had HB grade III facial paralysis which is expected to recover further. Mrs. Uma Maheshwari from Bangalore was diagnosed with acute suppurative lymphadenopathy in the neck. Abu Sajjid aged 2 years from Bangladesh was diagnosed to be deaf and mute since birth. The parents of the kid were referred to Dr. Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao for Cochlear Implantation.
